Adobe flash player Square now available for 64bit Linux

As you know there was a little problems with Adobe flash player on linux. All linux versions of flash player has very slow perfomanse especially in full screen mode where productivity reduced in 2 or 4 times, also there was only 32 bit version available.

Today I've found on the Adobe site information about new beta version of flash player for 64bit system. It was wery cool to know that linux version also available. This version is downloadable only from Adobe Labs and is is called now Adobe Flash Player "Square". You can download it here.

Linux version only in tar.gz format, there is no *.rpm or *.deb packages available, but it is not a very big problem. In archive you will found only libflashplayer.so library. To make it work properly you should find where old libflashplayer.so files placed. In my ubuntu linux it was in

  • /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so
  • /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so

Just replace this files with new and reload your browser. And it will work without any problem. But you should remember that you must do it every time after your flash player plugin will be updated to the version less than 10.2.

Some words about "Square" performance. It is awesome now, really awesome! I can easily switch to the full screen mode and back, I can really watch full HD video in full screen, QuakeLive works perfect and other stuff to. You can check video performance here.
